1945 - As combat in World War II ends in the Pacific Theater and the final official surrender of Japan is accepted aboard the battleship USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay on September 2, the Soviet Union and the People's Republic of China together celebrate V-J Day on the following day, because Kuomingtang represented China on the Missouri and the news reached the Communist Party of China's areas one-day late. There are still many "September 3" streets and primary schools in China.
